Over 16,500 student volunteers will come together today in what is known as the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, to participate in THON, Penn State IFC’s 46-hour dance marathon. The event, which takes place every February, is a year-long fundraising effort that goes towards the fight against pediatric cancer through Four Diamonds Fund at Hershey Medical Center. Last year, the event broke its record, bringing in $10,920,014.83, all of which benefits the families and children affected by pediatric cancer. Since 1973, THON has raised over $157 million in its efforts.
This year’s event will be held from 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 through 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Road Scholar Transport had the pleasure of creating an awareness truck for THON back in 2017.
“I had the idea in the back of my mind freshman year,” says PSU senior Jenn Friel, whose father works for Road Scholar Transport. “I had seen my dad and Road Scholar roll out new trucks for many years but I wasn’t sure of the exact process of getting one designed. The next summer I brought it up to my dad and he was all for the idea! Once the semester began, I brought the idea to THON’s overall Director at the time, Austin Sommerer, and he loved it. We got started right away on the specifics and design just in time for THON weekend where it was revealed.”
