Blistering Cold Conditions-We Have You Covered
Winter weather conditions can be unpredictable. One day you may be rejoicing the 50 degree December weather and the next week, battling morning ice patches from freezing temperatures the night before.
As your local trucking company, Road Scholar Transport takes full responsibility for your LTL and Truckload shipping needs, using precise measures to securely monitor every load we ship, providing consistent temperature, security seal handling, and protection of your valuable cargo for the duration of the transport. It’s no wonder we have a VERY LOW damage claim record of 0.0003%!
Transporting items that are susceptible to freezing is a huge risk, as a carrier’s trailer can reach temperatures as low as –20°F, leading to damaged products, recalls, loss of revenue, and of course, jeopardizing your brand equity.
Food and beverages can spoil if they freeze during transit, affecting their taste. This will then affect the brand negatively by either selling a badly tasting product or having to dispose of the product that was shipped, which can cause a drop in sales and as a result, a loss of profit. Chemicals, especially hazmat, can have detrimental effects on the environment if not taken care of properly. If chemicals freeze, they cannot be used unless heated to become liquid again—heating a chemical doesn’t even SOUND like a good idea. Heating a chemical too much can cause a runaway reaction. A runaway reaction is a thermally unstable reaction system which exhibits an uncontrolled accelerating rate of reaction leading to rapid increases in temperature and pressure, causing pollution to our environment. Pharmaceuticals are also very important and the freezing of a pharmaceutical product during shipping can alter its effectiveness —maybe even reversing its desired effect!
Unlike many of our regional competitors who will not pick up protect from freezing shipments on a Friday because they do not want to be responsible for protecting it throughout the weekend, we have a protect from freezing policy that allows us to pick up and deliver five days a week. We at Road Scholar think that a competent supplier should be able to provide 100% protect coverage and not the conventional 80% (Mon-Thur.). Additionally, we also provide expedited service for those shipments that need to be there FAST.
Heat Too Much to Bare-We Have You Covered
High temperature conditions pose a large concern for shippers whose products must maintain specific temperature ranges or else face spoilage and contamination risks (which in turn can lead to widespread outbreaks), hazardous concerns (such as explosions and injuries), as well as damage and malfunctioning of their products.
Did you know? “Large shares of pharmaceutical and medicinal shipments are classified as chilled products, which means they must be stored in a temperature range between 2 and 8°C” (35.6°F and 46.4°F). Exposure to exceeding temperatures can result in a loss of potency which, in return, can affect the health of consumers ingesting these medications.
Did you know? 41°F is the maximum temperature refrigerated foods must be transported in to prevent bacterial growth? Fluctuation in temperature can tamper with the product, causing bacteria to spread, leading to recalls and consumer health concerns. In fact, according to the CDC, 1 in 6 Americans suffer from foodborne illnesses a year, affecting 48 million Americans, hospitalizing nearly 130,000 and causing nearly 3,000 fatalities.
The majority of stolen shipments requiring a specific temperature range during transport are destroyed in fear of a possible contamination after recovery. But what if your shipment was not stolen? Would you still take the proper precautions to ensure that your freight maintained the temperature specified throughout the entire process or would you not second guess it? And how could you prove that to be the case?
How Do We Do It?
Road Scholar does not use blankets to sustain temperature conditions. Our trailers can be set as low as -22°F to as high as 89°F, providing protect from freezing, frozen, refrigerated, and heated service. Our reefers are imbedded with technology that tracks the temperature within and alerts our team in the event of a temperature fluctuation so that we can rectify the situation prior to the product losing its integrity. We can remotely set the temperature too!
We even provide our customers with the tools to track their shipment live throughout the entire transportation process and can provide a complete record of the temperature within the trailer at any given time, even months after delivery, as well as each time the trailer door was opened/closed.

Don’t forget, we have dry vans for all of your shipping needs as well!
