CargoNet recently released last year’s reported cargo theft incidents. Their results were as follows:
*There were over 1500 cargo theft, heavy commercial vehicle theft, and carrier identity thefts reported to CargoNet in 2015.
*Of the 1500 thefts, 881 were cargo.
*A $98 million cargo loss was reported in 53% of these incidents.
*If all 881 incidents suffered a full loss, the damage would be over $175 million!
*Average loss per incident was $187,490.
*10 thefts alone resulted in over $1 million.
*States in which the most cargo theft was reported were as follows: California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey.
*Most thefts occurred Friday to Sunday (49%) with Friday being the most popular day (21%).
*Food/beverage was the number one stolen product (28%).The above stats are provided by CargoNet
