FreightWatch Releases Third Quarter Cargo Theft Statistics

FreightWatch recently released its cargo theft findings for the July through September time period. Key findings from FreightWatch’s report are as follows and can be found at http://www.freightwatchintl.com/system/files/security-reports/us-report-q315.pdf:

*There were 152 cargo theft incidents reported in 2015’s third quarter.

*“The average loss value per incident during this time was $199,467,” a 7% increase over second quarter and a 38% decrease compared to the same period last year. 1

*One of these thefts was valued at over $1 million.

*Food/Beverages were the number one stolen product accounting for 22% of thefts. Electronics came in second at 12%, followed by auto & parts (11%), home & garden (11%), and building & industrial (9%).

*Most thefts occurred in unsecured parking areas (82%).

*Full truckloads were reported stolen in 81% of cases followed by pilferage (9%), fictitious pickup (5%), and facility theft (5%).
